A Question to you all:

If you are a female, do you expect men to hold/open the door for you?

If you are a male, do you hold/open doors for women?

I'm not talking car doors but like restaurant and store doors and the ilk.

I never realized how much I expected men to do this until last year. I grew up with my father always holding the door open for us. Then again, he was the only man in our family (it was my mom and three, sometimes four, daughters mostly). When I moved to New York City, men at my school often held doors open and I got used to it.

When men don't hold doors open for me, I almost feel mad or like they are impolite. And it's even worse when I walk up to the door, pause for the guy to open the door and he doesn't. Then I just feel like an idiot.

And it's not like everywhere I go, I expect the door to be opened. But, say, when I'm out with a guy hanging out or on a date and we're walking, I expect that he'll open the door for me.

Is this wrong for me in 2006 to expect the door to be held and/or opened for me?
